Out With The Old And In With The New?

Even when you thought the sports world couldn’t get any better with the return of basketball season…it did! Could it be that Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard maybe playing on the same team? This potential trade created such chaos throughout the sports industry. It was describe as a classic Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen and Dennis Rodman Chicago Bulls dream team. These three players working together defiantly had many teams scared of the opening season tip off on Christmas Day. However, no need to fear, the story ended as soon as it began.

The NBA CommissionerDavid Stern halted the deal due to the fact that the New Orleans Hornets wouldn’t have received a fair deal with the trade. If your wondering why the NBA has such a major hand in this trade its because they purchase the team a year ago when the Hornets was having financial difficulties during a tough economic time in Louisiana. Therefore, the owners of the Hornets wanted more for their star player Chris Paul and in the end the Lakers did not receive that dream team. Currently, Paul is head to the Clippers, which is another dramatic situation in itself. It is well known that the Lakers fans are a little salty that they lost Chris Paul to the Clippers. As for Dwight Howard, he is begin sought by various other teams such as the Nets, Knicks and yes the Lakers. However, the Orlando Magic is doing, as much as they can to ensure they will not lose their star player.

So with all the drama going on, one must wonder where is the happiness in all of this? Well, for players like Lamar Odom who took the trade a little hard, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. He was traded to the Dallas Maverick, which the franchise seems to be very pleased to have Lamar. As a sports fan, I was excited to see all the back and forth of the Chris Paul trade. The NBA came back with a bang like the lockout had never existed. This is what sports is all about, keeping the fans on edge and making risky decision all in the name of entertainment. See you at tip off and Happy Holiday Days!
